Melania Trump marks quiet birthday after traumatic White House gala shooting scare

Melania Trump’s subdued birthday follows dramatic White House dinner scare

Melania Trump marked her 56th birthday in a restrained setting at the White House, just hours after a security incident disrupted a high-profile event in Washington.

According to The Post, the First Lady spent the day privately, with staff from the East Wing presenting flowers and a card to recognize the occasion. A message shared by the White House also publicly acknowledged her birthday, describing her as “our amazing First Lady.”

The understated celebration came less than a day after she was forced to evacuate a gala where gunfire erupted, placing her at the center of a sudden security emergency.

A spokesperson told The Post that she was “holding up well” following the events of the previous evening.

Chaos at a high-profile gathering

The incident unfolded during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where Donald Trump and senior officials were in attendance. Melania had been seated at the main table alongside the president and press secretary Karoline Leavitt when the situation escalated.

Authorities said 31-year-old Cole Allen approached a Secret Service checkpoint carrying a long gun, with officials believing he intended to target top figures in the administration.

As shots were fired, video footage showed the president and JD Vance being rushed from the stage. Melania was seen taking cover before moving to safety with security personnel.

The moment was described by the president as deeply distressing for his wife, who he said had never experienced such an event to that degree.

Speaking later, Trump told CBS News’ 60 Minutes that while he had faced similar threats before, Melania had not. “It was a rather traumatic experience for her,” he said, adding that she “handled it great.”

Ongoing security concerns and broader context

The shooting marked what officials described as the third attempt on Trump’s life, following earlier incidents in Pennsylvania and Florida in 2024. Melania was not present during those events but later spoke publicly about the shock of witnessing one of them unfold on television.

In remarks to Fox News, she recalled the uncertainty of seeing her husband injured, stating that in such moments “you don’t know what happened.” After that attack, she issued a statement calling for an end to political violence and expressing gratitude to law enforcement.

Security has remained a consistent concern for the First Lady, a theme she has raised publicly, including in discussions about major public events and official appearances.

Those concerns now extend into ongoing diplomatic engagements, as King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived in Washington for a state visit, with heightened precautions in place ahead of a formal dinner at the White House.
