Taylor Swift quickly put out a kitchen fire in her $50 million Manhattan home after a night of songwriting, dinner, and drinks, a friend revealed this week.
Singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams recounted the incident to Billboard, praising Swift’s quick thinking despite the late hour and their inebriated state. “She was such a legend โ I donโt know how at this hour or in our state she knew what to do,” Abrams said, adding that they both suffered from a lingering cough due to the fire extinguisher fumes.
Abrams, who had been working on her new song “Us” with Swift, explained that they were playing tracks from her record “The Story of Us” and Swiftโs unreleased “The Tortured Poets Department” when the fire broke out in another room.
Initially unnoticed, the fire started after a candle fell over in the kitchen. Abrams shared that they had heard a noise but assumed it was one of Swift’s cats.
Late-Night Dance Session and Fire Incident
The two had been dancing “like theater kids” to Swiftโs “But Daddy I Love Him” and lying on the floor in disbelief after listening to “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.” Abrams, daughter of filmmaker J.J. Abrams, even recorded a video on her phone of herself crying-laughing as Swift extinguished the flames on her kitchen island.
The incident happened during an all-night songwriting session where the pair stayed up to finish Abrams’ new song “Us.” They were enjoying playing their latest tracks for each other when the unexpected fire broke out. The two had an “insane cough” from the fire extinguisher fumes for weeks after the incident.
Abrams has also been opening for Swift on her “Eras” tour, showcasing their close professional and personal bond. The friendship between the two artists is evident in their collaboration and mutual support during both their creative endeavors and unexpected emergencies.
