TV personality Susanna Reid reveals her ‘personal reason’ why she never married

Susanna Reid has spent decades in the public eye, but when it comes to her personal life, she has taken a notably private and independent approach. Despite several long-term relationships, the Good Morning Britain host has made it clear that marriage has never been part of her plans.

Reid began a relationship with journalist Dominic Cotton in 1998. The couple went on to have three sons together before announcing their separation in 2014. Years later, she briefly dated Steve Parish, after being introduced by her colleague Piers Morgan. Their relationship lasted nine months before ending in April 2019, with reports later suggesting a short-lived reconciliation in 2020.

Throughout these relationships, Reid has remained consistent in her stance: marriage is simply not something she has ever wanted.

A Personal Choice, Not a Priority

Speaking openly about her decision, Reid has described her views on marriage as deeply personal rather than traditional. In a 2021 discussion on Good Morning Britain, she challenged outdated ideas about family structure.

“It was a personal choice,” she said. “It’s a bit of an old-fashioned idea that children are ‘illegitimate’ if you’re not married. Children are legitimate, whether you’re married or not.”

Her perspective has remained unchanged over the years. While in a relationship with Parish, Reid reiterated that she had never envisioned a wedding or felt drawn to the idea of marriage at all.

“I’ve never wanted it… It was never my ambition to be married,” she said, emphasizing that her focus has always been on the quality of the relationship itself rather than formalizing it.

Focusing on Family and Career

Instead of prioritizing marriage, Reid has centered her life around raising her children, building her career, and maintaining fulfilling relationships. She has spoken candidly about being content with her choices, describing herself as happy and focused on what matters most to her.

While Reid has chosen a different path, several of her colleagues have embraced marriage. Ben Shephard married his wife Annie in 2004, while Kate Garraway wed Derek Draper in 2005. Meanwhile, Piers Morgan later married Celia Walden in 2010.

For Reid, however, the absence of a wedding ring has never reflected a lack of commitment—only a different definition of what a happy life looks like.
