Tiger Woods and girlfriend Vanessa Trump face another disappointing and unfortunate news

Tiger Woods and his girlfriend Vanessa Trump have a family setback to follow after her daughter Kai shared an update that changes her plans for the coming months.

The 19-year-old recently began her freshman year at the University of Miami, taking an important step toward her ambitions as a golfer. But her first college tournament brought a problem she had hoped to overcome without a lengthy interruption.

On Wednesday, October 14, Kai revealed that she had undergone wrist surgery after attempts to avoid an operation.

Her announcement included a photograph from a hospital bed, showing her left wrist in a large cast and sling.

A difficult decision after an unexpected injury

Kai explained that she reached the decision after discussions with her family, coaches and athletic training staff.

“I recently underwent surgery to repair a wrist injury I sustained during my first tournament of the season,” she wrote.

Although she had wanted to avoid surgery, she described it as the best choice for her long-term health and future in the sport.

“It’s certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn, and I’m choosing to embrace this one with patience, and a whole lot of determination,” she added.

The announcement followed an injury at the Golfweek Fall Challenge in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

According to the Daily Mail, Kai previously explained on YouTube that she struck concrete hidden beneath the surface while attempting a shot near a path. She described the sensation as “like a shock on my arm.”

Tests found damage involving cartilage and ligaments without a complete tear. She received stem cell injections before ultimately proceeding with surgery.

Tiger has been an important influence

For Woods, Kai is someone whose progress he has supported beyond his relationship with Vanessa.

The 15-time major champion advised her before her LPGA Tour debut at The Annika in November 2025. Kai later spoke about his influence while attending the ESPYs on July 15.

“He’s inspired me a lot,” she told Us Weekly. “Just to be a better person, better golfer, and stuff like that.”

According to Page Six, Woods also attended her graduation at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on May 15.

His connection with Kai has included both her golfing ambitions and significant moments away from competition.

She verbally committed to Miami in August 2024 and signed in November 2025 before beginning university this fall.

Family support as her plans change

In her surgery announcement, Kai emphasized the encouragement she has received from those around her.

“Recovery will take time, but I’m incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by amazing people who continue to lift me up, encourage me, and remind me that every challenge is an opportunity to grow,” she wrote.

She thanked Dr. Carlson and the team at HSS in New York, along with her family, teammates, coaches and others supporting her.

The setback comes during an already emotional adjustment to college life. In a YouTube video, Kai became tearful while discussing leaving friends and family in Jupiter, Florida, even as she expressed excitement about university.

Now, her immediate focus is recovery. She has not announced a specific date for returning to competition, but made clear that she wants to rejoin her team.

“I’ll be back before you know it, stronger and more grateful than ever!” she wrote.
