Authorities considered airlifting him for treatment, but his condition was too unstable for transport, Sheriff Boudreaux said.

The situation escalated into a seven-hour standoff before it came to an end when SWAT teams used an armored vehicle to stop the suspect. The sheriff stated that the action was intentional, emphasizing that officers responded decisively after being fired upon.

Officials said Morales did not have a prior criminal record, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Sheriff Boudreaux indicated that mental health concerns may have played a role, though no definitive cause has been established.
