Kathryn Harrold, a familiar face from some of the most recognizable films of the 1980s, has been seen during a rare public outing in Los Angeles, offering a glimpse into her life years after stepping away from the spotlight.
Harrold built her reputation during a decade that cemented her place in Hollywood, taking on leading roles across a range of films. One of her most notable performances came in The Hunter, where she starred opposite Steve McQueen in what would become his final film.
In the movie, McQueen portrayed a bounty hunter facing mounting threats, while Harrold played his pregnant partner, Dotty. The film’s release in 1980 marked the end of an era for McQueen, who died later that year following surgery in Mexico.
Harrold’s role in the film remains one of the defining moments of her career, placing her alongside one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors during his final performance.
Throughout the 1980s, she continued to build her filmography with prominent roles, including starring opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in Raw Deal. Additional credits from that period include Modern Romance, The Pursuit of D. B. Cooper, Yes, Giorgio, and The Sender.
Before her rise in cinema, Harrold began her career in television, appearing in daytime soap operas and short-lived drama series. After establishing herself in film, she later returned to television with a range of roles.
She appeared in the NBC period drama I’ll Fly Away alongside Regina Taylor and Sam Waterston. She also held a recurring role on The Larry Sanders Show from 1992 to 1998, portraying Francine Sanders.
Her later television appearances included guest roles on The Practice, CSI: NY, and Desperate Housewives. Her final credited role came in Greek, where she appeared across several episodes between 2007 and 2011.
Her transition between film and television reflects a career that remained active across multiple decades, even as her on-screen appearances became less frequent.
A Rare Public Appearance
Now 75, Harrold was recently seen in Los Angeles during a low-key outing. She wore a checked, long-sleeved button-down shirt paired with black linen trousers and sandals, opting for a natural appearance without makeup.

The sighting marks a rare glimpse of the retired actress, who has largely remained out of the public eye in recent years.
Outside of her acting career, Harrold was married to Lawrence O’Donnell, a longtime MSNBC anchor, from 1994 until 2013. The former couple share one child, Elizabeth.

While her Hollywood career once placed her at the center of major productions, Harrold’s recent appearance highlights a quieter chapter of her life, far removed from the industry that made her a recognizable name.
