For decades, Sharon Stone has been recognized for her work in film and television, but her life away from the screen has been just as defining. At the center of it is her role as a mother — particularly to her eldest son, Roan Joseph Bronstein Stone.
Roan, adopted in 2000 during her marriage to Phil Bronstein, marked a turning point in Stone’s life as she stepped into motherhood after years of personal hardship.
A Life Shaped by Family
Stone has spoken openly about the challenges she faced on her path to becoming a parent. In a 2022 comment on a PEOPLE Instagram post, she shared that she experienced multiple miscarriages, writing, “I lost nine children by miscarriage,” while highlighting how deeply those losses affected her.
Even through those experiences, Stone has made it clear that her priority has always been her children, saying in an interview with AARP that she is focused on being “a healthy and present parent.” She has also reflected on how her life events shaped her outlook, emphasizing that family comes before anything else.
In an October 2023 interview with PEOPLE, she confirmed that she has no regrets about putting motherhood ahead of her career, noting that her choices were guided by what mattered most to her.
Growing Up Between Two Homes
After Stone and Bronstein divorced in 2004, they shared joint custody of Roan. He primarily lived with his father in San Francisco during the school year, while maintaining a strong bond with his mother.
In 2008, Stone sought to change the custody arrangement and move him to Los Angeles, but a judge denied the request. Years later, she described the emotional impact of that period on the podcast Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi.
“It broke my heart,” she said, explaining that the experience affected her physically and led to medical complications.
Despite those difficulties, their relationship remained close. In 2017, Roan and his younger brothers publicly honored their mother at a Mother’s Day event, where he shared that one of the most important lessons she taught him was to treat others with kindness and always put his best foot forward.
Following His Own Creative Interests
Now 25, Roan is beginning to establish his own identity. He is pursuing acting and has also explored other artistic outlets, including glassblowing, which Stone has described as a natural ability.
He has stepped into the public eye in select moments, including a 2020 feature with Odda magazine. Stone has expressed pride in her son’s progress, sharing a message of support in 2024 when she posted, “Proud of you… Well done.”
Roan has also made personal choices that reflect his connection to both of his parents. In 2019, he petitioned to change his surname to honor both sides of his family.
