Mary Louise Weller, whose acting career included National Lampoon’s Animal House, Serpico and Forced Vengeance, died Thursday, October 1, following a brief illness.
Her partner, Michael Roy Curtis, announced her death, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Weller was 79.
The actress died one day before her 80th birthday, having been born on October 2, 1946.
Her friend David Marks also shared the news on Facebook, remembering her work and interests beyond the screen. His tribute described Weller as a friend, actress, model and equestrian, and said she had passed away quietly.
The comedy role that became her best-known performance
Weller played sorority member Mandy Pepperidge in the 1978 comedy Animal House, directed by John Landis.

The cast included John Belushi, Tim Matheson, Karen Allen, Kevin Bacon, Donald Sutherland and Thomas Hulce. Set in the early 1960s, the film earned approximately $141.6 million against a production budget of $3 million.
Mandy Pepperidge became Weller’s most recognizable role, a possibility she had discussed before joining the film.
In an interview with Cult Film Freak, Weller recalled showing the screenplay to ABC executive Brandon Stoddard. She said he anticipated the movie’s success while cautioning her about how closely audiences might associate her with it.

“He also knew it would be an enormous hit, but he warned me that it would be the movie I would always be known for,” she recalled.
Animal House was one of two films featuring Weller released in 1978. She also appeared alongside Richard Crenna and Joanna Pettet in the supernatural horror movie The Evil.
A career spanning film and television
Born in New York and raised in the Los Angeles area, Weller began working as a model before moving into acting.
Her screen debut came in the 1972 political comedy Hail! The following year, she had a small role in Serpico, the crime drama starring Al Pacino.
Television appearances followed throughout the decade, including work on Kojak. After Animal House, her guest credits included Starsky and Hutch, CHiPs, Supertrain, Detective School and Fantasy Island.
Her film work also included The Bell Jar in 1979, an adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s 1963 novel. In 1980, she appeared with Ted Danson and Christopher Lee in the television movie Once Upon a Spy.

Weller worked alongside Chuck Norris in Forced Vengeance in 1982. She also appeared in Q and Blood Tide that year.
Her final acting credit was an episode of Quincy, M.E. in 1983.
Weller reflected on the roles she was offered
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times in 1986, Weller discussed the kinds of characters she had played during her career. She described parts centered on attractive women facing danger or privileged daughters who kept others at a distance.
Her Hollywood connections also included actor Danny Kaye, her godfather, whose films included White Christmas.
Curtis’s announcement and Marks’s tribute confirmed her death following a brief illness. The supplied reporting did not identify the illness.
