Emily discovers Irish and American history in Waterford

One of Compagno’s posts took followers to Waterford, where she visited the place she described as the birthplace of the Irish flag.

Standing on a street in the city, she posed for a photograph wearing a dark belted coat over a gray dress, with an Irish flag visible behind her.

“This is the exact place where the Irish tricolour was first raised in 1848,” she wrote.

Compagno also highlighted the connection between Irish history and the United States, explaining that Thomas Francis Meagher later crossed the Atlantic and became a general in the American Civil War.

“Leave it to me to find a little American history in Ireland,” she joked.

The post prompted followers to share their own Irish roots. “My great-grandma was born in Waterford,” one person wrote, while another commented, “Irish Paul here, born in Waterford.”

Her travels also took her to the House of Waterford Crystal, where she watched craftspeople transform molten crystal into finished pieces.
