How Rob Lowe and his family are supporting Chad Lowe after his daughter Fiona’s death at 13

Rob Lowe is among the relatives supporting his younger brother Chad Lowe and sister-in-law Kim Painter following the death of their 13-year-old daughter, Fiona.

A source told PEOPLE that the brothers share a close relationship and that relatives and friends have come together around the grieving parents. And after hearing the tragedy he was shocked and immediately went to support his brother Chad.

Rob and the wider Lowe family are focused on supporting Chad and Kim as they mourn Fiona, according to the source.

The family announced her death in a September 29 statement to PEOPLE. Fiona was the middle of Chad and Kim’s three daughters, between Mabel Painter, 17, and Nixie Barbara, 10.

Rob joins relatives and friends around the grieving parents

The account shared with PEOPLE places Rob, 62, alongside other loved ones offering support to Chad, 58, and Kim.

“Rob and Chad are very close. Their family and friends have rallied around Chad and Kim,” the insider said. “Everyone’s heartbroken.”

The source also acknowledged the loss the household had already experienced when their home was destroyed in the January 2025 Pacific Palisades fires.

“They already went through so much with losing their home last year,” the insider told PEOPLE.

The immediate priority, the source explained, is being available to Chad and Kim in whatever ways they need.

“Right now, the focus is on being there for them in any way they can,” the source added.

The family remembers Fiona’s creativity and love of dance

Chad and Kim’s announcement described Fiona through her personality, interests and relationships with those closest to her.

They remembered a loving, intelligent and creative girl who enjoyed dancing. Their statement emphasized how much she meant to her parents and how deeply her sisters adored her.

“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona,” they told PEOPLE.

Her parents called Fiona “the light of our lives” and asked for prayers and privacy for the entire family.

Her grandfather, Chuck Lowe, also shared a public remembrance after the announcement. He posted a photograph of Fiona swimming on Instagram, accompanied by the message, “Rest in peace sweet Fiona.”

Support extends to Fiona’s school community

Beyond the relatives gathering around Chad and Kim, Fiona’s school community has also been mourning her and honoring her memory.

Another source told PEOPLE that the Lowe family regularly participated in school functions. The insider described a warm, artistic community where parents knew one another and were involved in school life.

Fiona was remembered as quiet, kind and considerate toward other students. Dance was her greatest passion, according to the source, who also spoke about her artistic nature.

Many of her friends were absent from school as they grieved, the insider said.
