Kevin Costnerโs departure from Yellowstone has left some fans dissatisfied, but the actor has addressed the backlash surrounding his character, John Dutton, exiting the hit series.
โFans have a voice in things, and they choose what to follow,โ Costner explained in an interview with E! over the weekend.
While the exit of the Dutton family patriarch unfolded as a result of a gunshot wound, Costner revealed he had previously pitched his own ideas for concluding John Duttonโs storyline. However, the show’s producers ultimately decided on the details. โThey do what they want to do,โ he remarked. โThatโs fine with me.โ
Costner confirmed his departure from Yellowstone on social media in June, explaining that other professional commitments made it impossible for him to continue with the series.
Reflecting on the decision, he shared, โAfter a long year and a half working on Horizon and everything it required, I realized I couldnโt continue with Season 5B or beyond.โ
Shifting focus on another project
The actor has been focused on his multi-part film project, Horizon: An American Saga. The first installment debuted over the summer, while the release of the planned second chapter has been delayed.
Speaking about his plans for the future, Costner told E!, โIโm still figuring out whatโs next. I make these things, and Iโll find a way to get them to an audience,โ adding with a laugh, โIโll figure it out.โ
Costnerโs transition away from Yellowstone highlights a significant shift for both the actor and the popular series, leaving fans to speculate about whatโs next for the franchise. Meanwhile, his work on Horizon continues to show his dedication to storytelling on a larger scale.
