Timothy Dalton spotted in L.A days after his birthday. Check-out the 80-year-old actor now

Timothy Dalton, the acclaimed British actor best known for his tenure as James Bond, has made a rare public appearance with a noticeable change in style.

The 80-year-old was recently seen out in Los Angeles, debuting a new mustache that marks a departure from the clean-shaven look he maintained throughout many of his most recognizable roles.

The appearance comes just days after Dalton celebrated his 80th birthday, offering fans a glimpse of the veteran actor with a refreshed and unexpected look. Known for his sharp features and defined jawline, Dalton built much of his on-screen persona around a polished, classic appearance—making the mustache a notable shift.

From Romantic Lead to Iconic Bond

Dalton first rose to international attention with his performance in Wuthering Heights (1970), where he starred opposite Anna Calder-Marshall. His portrayal helped cement his status as a leading man early in his career.

He later stepped into one of cinema’s most recognizable roles, becoming the fourth actor to portray James Bond. Dalton appeared as 007 in The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill, following Roger Moore and preceding Pierce Brosnan.

His interpretation of Bond initially divided audiences, with some viewing his performance as a stark contrast to Moore’s lighter tone. However, his portrayal has since been reassessed, gaining recognition for its closer alignment with the original tone of Ian Fleming’s novels. Moore himself later praised Dalton’s work, calling his Bond “excellent.”

A Career Beyond 007

While the Bond franchise remains closely tied to his name, Dalton’s career spans decades and genres. His film credits include The Rocketeer and Hot Fuzz, as well as voice work in Toy Story 3, where he portrayed Mr. Pricklepants.

He has amassed 75 acting credits, with one of his most recent roles appearing in nine episodes of the 1923, starring alongside Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

Beyond his acting work, Dalton has also recently commented on developments surrounding the James Bond franchise. In remarks reported by The Telegraph, he described the sale of creative control to Amazon as “sad,” expressing concern about the future direction of the series.

“It is a damn fine series of movies… it’s been part of our lives, so anything that threatens it is kind of sad,” Dalton said, while also emphasizing that the character of Bond should remain British.

The franchise, originally launched by Albert “Cubby” Broccoli and later overseen by Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, continues to face uncertainty. Since the release of No Time to Die, no successor to Daniel Craig has been announced.

Even decades after his Bond era, Dalton remains deeply connected to the legacy of the character—both in public memory and in his own reflections on its future.
