Kai Trump recently offered followers a glimpse into her close relationship with her grandfather, President Donald Trump, sharing a candid moment that quickly caught attention during one of the biggest milestones of her life.
While documenting her high school graduation in a YouTube video, the 19-year-old received an unexpected phone call from the president while getting ready for the ceremony.
Rather than discussing politics or official business, Kai described the conversation as a simple call from a caring grandfather, saying, “He’s literally just, like, a grandpa.”
A graduation day surprise
In the video, Kai answered the phone before telling President Trump, “Alright, I love you. Bye.”
After ending the call, she turned to her hairstylist and smiled as she shared how often her grandfather reaches out.
“So cute. Isn’t it so cute that he just calls me whenever?” she said.
Kai also pointed out that her grandfather had been traveling internationally at the time.
She explained that he was on his way back from China and still made time to call her, adding that she found the gesture “very, very cute.”
The brief exchange offered a rare look at the personal bond the president shares with one of his grandchildren away from the public spotlight.
Family celebrates an important milestone
Kai graduated from The Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens before celebrating with a family dinner later that evening.
Among those attending the graduation ceremony was professional golfer Tiger Woods, who is in a relationship with Kai’s mother, Vanessa Trump. Although Woods attended the ceremony itself, he did not join the family for dinner.
The celebration also included Donald Trump Jr.’s wife, Bettina Anderson, along with Tiffany Trump and her husband, Michael Boulos.
Photos obtained by Page Six showed Kai wearing a white mini dress paired with silver heels as she celebrated the occasion with family members.
This fall, Kai is expected to begin a new chapter at the University of Miami, where she will also compete on the school’s women’s golf team.
President Trump missed the ceremony
Although President Trump called Kai on her graduation day, he was unable to attend the ceremony because of his official responsibilities.
The article also noted that he was absent from Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson’s wedding celebrations for similar reasons.
In a message shared on Truth Social before the wedding, President Trump congratulated the newlyweds while explaining that his responsibilities in Washington prevented him from attending.
Despite missing both family events in person, his phone call to Kai highlighted the close relationship they continue to share.
Kai’s graduation came during an emotional week for her family, as her mother, Vanessa Trump, announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
In her public statement, Vanessa said she is working closely with her medical team while remaining focused and hopeful with the support of her children, family and those closest to her.
For Kai, however, graduation day was marked by a memorable family moment—one that reminded viewers that, despite the demands of the presidency, Donald Trump still makes time to call his granddaughter simply as her grandfather.
