JD and Usha Vance step back from their official D.C. residence—and explain why with one revealing word

JD and Usha Vance are adjusting to life with four children while creating more distance between their family and the constant public attention of Washington, D.C.

The vice president and second lady have not abandoned their official residence at the Naval Observatory. However, Usha and their children have begun spending more time at a rented property outside Middleburg, Virginia.

The reason behind the arrangement can be summarized in one word: “normalcy.”

According to CNN, the family is using a residence at Wolver Hill Farm, a historic property spanning nearly 500 acres. People familiar with the arrangement told the outlet that it is intended to offer Usha and the children additional privacy.

JD is expected to stay at the farm periodically, while the Naval Observatory remains the family’s official residence.

A quieter setting for a growing family

The change comes as the Vances welcome their fourth child, Alec Neel Vance.
