Alabama teen, 17, accused of killing mother after confrontation over Facebook posts — also attacked father

A 17-year-old Alabama boy has been charged with murder after investigators say he fatally stabbed his mother and seriously injured his father following a confrontation that reportedly began over Facebook posts the mother had shared about him.

Brandon Baker is accused of killing his mother, Samantha Baker, and attacking his father, Lance Baker, at the family’s home in Daphne on Sunday. Authorities allege he used a kitchen knife during the attack before calling 911 and describing the incident as a domestic matter.

His father survived the attack and remains hospitalized in stable condition. Brandon has been charged with murder and is being held on a $1 million bond. Authorities say he will be tried as an adult.

According to a neighbor who spoke with the New York Post, the argument began after Brandon confronted his mother about Facebook posts he believed were directed at him.

Neighbor describes argument before violence erupted

Neighbor Shawn Scurry told the Post she heard Brandon questioning his mother about a comment she had posted online. According to Scurry, Samantha insisted it was “just a story,” referring to a temporary Facebook post that disappears after 24 hours.

A neighbor revealed that, just hours before the alleged killings, Brandon was heard arguing with his mother over Facebook posts she had made.

Scurry said the argument was loud enough to be heard throughout the neighborhood and believed Samantha’s repeated social media complaints about raising a teenage son may have been affecting him.

“She does talk kind of rude about the kids,” Scurry told the newspaper. “And, you know, they are teenagers.”

The neighbor said Samantha ultimately ended the argument by telling Brandon to mow the lawn as one of his chores.

According to Scurry, Brandon did exactly that, and nothing at the time suggested the confrontation would escalate into violence later that day.

Investigators later said the family became involved in another argument over a disciplinary issue before the attack allegedly began.

Investigators outline alleged attack

According to Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Captain Justin Correa, Brandon allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and chased both of his parents from the house, repeatedly stabbing them.

Samantha suffered multiple stab wounds and later died. Lance Baker, a U.S. Army Reserve Battalion Commander with more than 26 years of service, was critically injured before being airlifted to a hospital.

Authorities said he is now recovering in stable condition.

Scurry told the New York Post that audio recorded by her Nest camera captured parts of the attack.

She said she recognized Samantha’s scream before hearing Lance pleading with his son.

According to Scurry, he repeatedly cried, “I don’t want to die. Please stop,” before calling out for help.

The neighbor also said Lance ran from house to house attempting to escape while leaving bloodied handprints on neighbors’ doors as Brandon allegedly continued chasing him.

Police said Brandon eventually returned to the family home and called 911.

Family posts offered glimpse into home life

A review of Samantha Baker’s Facebook page showed numerous family photographs, including pictures of the family attending football games and church together.

Some of her posts, however, openly discussed the challenges of raising teenage boys.

One birthday message described Brandon as “an amazing person” while also saying he could make her “blood boil.”

In another National Sons’ Day post, she called him a “sweet guy” but also referenced his “mouth and attitude.”

She also shared several parenting memes, including one that joked, “Gentle parenting is for gentle children. My thugs will be handled accordingly.”

Authorities have not identified which specific Facebook story Brandon allegedly confronted his mother about, and investigators continue examining the circumstances that led to the fatal attack.

Samantha Baker had previously served six years in the Army National Guard and Army Reserve before working as a realtor. The investigation remains ongoing.
