Just like in the second game of the season when he didn’t see the infamous penalty in Juve-Bologna, the referee from Brindisi yesterday didn’t control as expected the reins of the match at the Olimpico.
“And it will be bench time once again. For about a month, just like what happened at the beginning of the season when the suspension lasted for 36 days. Marco Di Bello didn’t take control of Lazio-Milan just like he missed the clear penalty in Juventus-Bologna during the second game of the season: then he returned to the field after over a month; now the timeframe will be more or less the same, considering the upcoming break for international matches.
NON-PENALTY, BUT THEN
It’s quite predictable that the performance of the referee from Brindisi was judged very negatively. Even the appointer Gianluca Rocchi didn’t find any redeeming aspects except for the first decision of the match, the one that at the 12th minute of the first half saw Maignan and Castellanos in a contact not deemed a penalty. Then, from there or almost, Di Bello’s guidance decidedly went off track.
At the beginning of the season, Di Bello was indeed the referee of Juventus-Bologna, the match in which he (and Fourneau and Nasca in the VAR room) decided that Illing Jr’s tackle on Ndoye was not a penalty. “Clear penalty and hasty and superficial review,” Rocchi said afterwards. After that match (played at the Stadium on August 27th), Di Bello returned to Serie A action on October 2nd for Fiorentina-Cagliari: a total of 36 days inactive. So, a timeframe similar to the next one, starting from the mistakes of Lazio-Milan onwards.”
