The Croatian would have prefer a longer agreement, but he will accept De Laurentiis’ proposal. Tudor set to become the new Napoli coach
Igor Tudor is one step away from becoming the next Napoli coach. After today’s meeting with the Napoli President Aurelio de Laurentiis, the parties would have indeed reached an agreement for a one-year contract (until June 2024) with an option for the following season, which would come into effect in case of positive results in this championship.
Tudor and his agent will remain in Rome awaiting the final decision of Napoli’s top executive, but the deal seems inevitable at this moment. Possible alternatives, should the deal unexpectedly fail, include Walter Mazzarri and Fabio Cannavaro.
The announcement should, in any case, be a matter of hours, the time needed to finalize the separation from Rudi Garcia, who holds a two-year contract worth 2.8 million with a clause that would allow Napoli to terminate the agreement a year in advance, and to put the final stamp on the agreement with Tudor.
The Croatian, who has been inactive since his French adventure with Marseille last season, will therefore be Napoli’s next coach, and it will be his task to keep the blues at least in the top four and continue the journey in the Champions League.
Tudor, who, as the head coach in Italy, has not disappointed either at Udinese or Verona taking both team to comfortable positions on the table. He secured the 3rd place in Ligue 1 last season with Marseille. Not by chance, the candidacies of Fabio Cannavaro and Walter Mazzarri have lost ground.
