Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig are preparing for marriage after a relationship that began during a difficult chapter in both their lives.
The Melrose Place actor, 59, and attorney, 48, confirmed their engagement to PEOPLE, revealing that they became engaged this past spring. Their announcement comes weeks after their former spouses, Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, married on September 19.
For Shue, the relationship represents an unexpected chance at happiness after the end of his marriage.

“I don’t know how it happened, but there’s a happy ending,” he told PEOPLE.
A friendship became something more
Shue and Fiebig began dating in 2023, with their relationship becoming public that December. According to the Daily Mail, they had reportedly been together for around seven months when the news emerged.

Both had experienced the public breakdown of their marriages following the revelation of Robach and Holmes’ relationship in November 2022.
However, Shue described his connection with Fiebig through the friendship and openness they offered one another.
“This just happened to be our way of getting to know each other and being able to share ourselves with each other in a time where we both needed a friend,” he told PEOPLE.

Their relationship has now progressed from that early support to an engagement, although the supplied report did not include a wedding date or proposal details.
Shue reflects on what he learned
Speaking about his divorce from Robach, Shue acknowledged that moving forward involved examining his own role in the marriage.
He said he “had to accept my own part in marriage not working out for me” and develop a better understanding of himself and what matters in a relationship.
Shue described that process as “an extraordinary gift,” while acknowledging the difficulty involved.
“Again, I don’t know how it happened, but I can say I’m grateful. I had to grow through a lot of pain and a lot of struggle and a lot of humility,” he said.
His reflections focused on personal growth and the relationship he and Fiebig have built together.
“I think the magic of love is when you go from a need to giving,” he added.
Their former spouses recently married
The engagement announcement follows another milestone involving the former couples.
Robach, 53, and Holmes, 49, married in an intimate September ceremony in Arkansas, Holmes’ home state. They had announced their engagement during an October 14, 2025, episode of their Amy & T.J. podcast.

Their romance first became public in November 2022 after the Daily Mail published photographs of them spending time together outside work.
The former GMA3 co-anchors were taken off the air in December 2022 and officially departed ABC in January 2023.

Shue and Robach finalized their divorce in March 2023. Fiebig and Holmes reportedly settled theirs that October.
A new chapter for both families
Shue and Robach married in 2010 and had no children together. Their blended family included his three sons and her two daughters from previous relationships.
Fiebig and Holmes also married in 2010 and share a daughter, Sabine, 13. Holmes has two additional children from his first marriage.

Now, Shue and Fiebig are looking toward a future together after keeping their spring engagement private for several months.
For Shue, the unexpected circumstances of their connection have left him grateful.
“You don’t know how you meet the person who’s right for you,” he told PEOPLE. “It just happened.”
