Alyssa Farah Griffin has shared encouraging news about her seven-month-old son, Justin Patrick Griffin Jr., months after the infant underwent emergency surgery and received care in an intensive care unit.
The 37-year-old co-host of The View first disclosed the medical emergency during a May episode of the program’s podcast. Her son was two months old when he required a major operation, though she has chosen not to reveal the precise nature of the procedure.
Speaking with People following the Season 30 premiere of The View, Farah Griffin said her son is recovering remarkably well.
“He’s doing amazing,” she told the outlet.
Justin Jr. continues to make progress
Farah Griffin explained that her son will need to wear a helmet for approximately one year. She said the additional protection has brought her some reassurance as a first-time mother.
“We’re in a helmet for a year, which honestly, as a first-time mom, I kind of appreciate,” she said. “I’m like, it’s just another safety mechanism.”
The television personality also expressed amazement at the pace of her son’s recovery.
“Babies are so resilient. They’re miracles,” she said.
Farah Griffin added that Justin Jr. is not expected to remember or experience lasting feelings from the operation.
“He will never know the surgery he had. He’ll never feel anything from it. He’s great. He’s so sharp. He’s just perfect,” she told People.
Her latest comments offer a welcome contrast to the emotional account she shared shortly after the frightening medical episode.
A difficult weekend in intensive care
When Farah Griffin initially discussed the surgery in May, she became emotional while explaining that her infant son had needed a major operation.
“My son ended up needing a major operation,” she said at the time. “I’m actually not going to get into the details only because I will just turn into a puddle talking about it, but he had to get a surgery this weekend.”
She and her husband, Justin Griffin, spent the weekend with their son in the ICU. Farah Griffin said she had kept the impending surgery private and spent the preceding week praying that he would be safe.
After the procedure, she reported that it had gone better than expected. His doctor told the family that Justin Jr. was reaching every milestone and was expected to be well.
Farah Griffin described seeing her son smile after the surgery as the happiest moment of her life.
She recalled waking at approximately 3 a.m. from the small cot she and her husband were sharing. When she returned from the bathroom, her son was awake and caught her eye.
“He giggled, and I was like, ‘It’s the happiest moment of my life. He’s OK, he recognizes mama,’” she said.
At the time, Justin Jr. was not yet three months old.
Farah Griffin said watching her baby in such a vulnerable condition was the most difficult experience she had ever faced. She also expressed the depth of her devotion to him, saying she loved him with “every fiber” of her being and would have sacrificed her own life to protect his health and safety.
A long-awaited first child
Farah Griffin and her husband welcomed Justin Jr. in February 2026. Before becoming pregnant, she had spoken publicly about undergoing in vitro fertilization and the couple’s efforts to have a child.
She announced her pregnancy in October and returned to The View on April 13, approximately two months after her son’s birth.
Her latest update indicates that Justin Jr. has continued to recover since the surgery and ICU stay.
