President Donald Trump is calling for arrests after what he has described as a shocking act of “sabotage” during his headline-making appearance at the United Nations this week.
The drama unfolded as Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were on their way to address the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. The couple stepped onto the golden-colored escalator leading to the main floor when, suddenly, it jolted to a complete stop, nearly sending them tumbling forward.
“It was only because we were both holding the handrail so tightly that we didn’t go crashing down,” Trump revealed in a fiery Truth Social post. “If we hadn’t, it would have been a disaster.”

“A Real Disgrace”
Trump blasted the malfunction as “a real disgrace,” insisting it was no accident. Pointing to a report in The London Times where UN workers had jokingly suggested shutting down escalators during his visit, the president declared that this was “absolutely sabotage.”
White House Press Secretary Katherine Leavitt echoed his outrage, posting: “If someone at the UN intentionally stopped the escalator as the President and First Lady were stepping on, they need to be fired and investigated immediately.”

But Trump went further and demanded arrests for anyone involved. “This was a triple sabotage,” he fumed, pointing to not only the escalator but also a teleprompter outage and a sound glitch during his speech.
Outrage and Support Online
Online, supporters rallied behind the president, with many describing the incident as a major security threat. “Those who stopped it need to be charged,” one alarmed commenter wrote. “That’s a serious breach of safety.”
Others argued that the First Couple had been deliberately placed at risk: “Secret Service should have covered and evacuated him immediately. This wasn’t supposed to happen.”
Melania Leads the Way
Despite the scare, Melania Trump kept her poise. Wearing a cream blazer and matching pants, the First Lady calmly began walking up the stalled escalator, heels clicking against the steel steps as cameras flashed. Her husband followed, adjusting his stance before climbing behind her.
The image of the couple moving forward undeterred has already gone viral — with many praising Melania’s composure in the moment.
“Triple Sabotage”
Trump insists this was only the first in a series of deliberate disruptions. Minutes later, his teleprompter went “stone cold dark,” forcing him to deliver the first 15 minutes of his speech without guidance. Later, a sound outage was so severe that world leaders could not hear him without interpreter earpieces, and even Melania admitted afterward she hadn’t heard a word.
“This wasn’t a coincidence,” Trump declared. “The escalator, the teleprompter, the sound — all sabotage. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.”
The UN later explained the escalator’s abrupt stop as a built-in safety mechanism triggered by a cameraman walking backward, but Trump isn’t convinced. He has demanded all security footage be preserved and vowed that the Secret Service is already investigating.
As he put it himself: “This wasn’t a coincidence, it was triple sabotage. I’m sending a copy of this letter to the Secretary General and demand an immediate investigation. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.”
