From teary toasts to treasured keepsakes, Donna Kelce is soaking up every second of her son’s engagement to Taylor Swift, and fans are loving the mom moment.
While Travis Kelce and Swift broke the internet with their Instagram announcement this week, it turns out Donna has been celebrating behind the scenes for much longer. According to proud dad Ed Kelce, the romantic proposal actually happened two weeks ago, and Donna’s been in full memory-making mode ever since.
Saving little things like photos, notes, and flowers
A source close to the Kelce family revealed to People that Donna has started collecting personal mementos from her son’s engagement to the global superstar.
“She is very sentimental about it,” the source said. “She’s saving little things from this time like photos, notes, and flowers. She wants to remember every detail.”
It’s a tender, behind-the-scenes touch that’s made fans even more emotional — especially after noticing Donna’s new Facebook background: a viral meme showing childhood photos of Swift and Kelce, boldly captioned: “THEY ARE GETTING MARRIED.”
A low-key proposal with a big heart
In a rare interview with News 5 Cleveland, Travis’s dad Ed shared exactly how the proposal went down and it wasn’t the over-the-top event people might have expected.
“He was going to put it off till this week, to make some grand thing, a big special event. But I told him, ‘You could do it on the side of the road — any place becomes special when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.’”
So, instead of waiting for a bigger event, Travis proposed just before they went out to dinner. “He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘let’s go out and have a glass of wine,’” Ed recalled.
“They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great.”
Celebrating now, planning later
While fans are already buzzing about potential wedding dresses, venues, and of course, the guest list, the couple isn’t rushing.
“They’ve been in celebration mode ever since,” the insider said. “They’re not in wedding planning mode just yet. Right now, they just want to enjoy being engaged.”
And who can blame them? Between NFL season kickoff duties and Swift’s global superstardom, these two are juggling more than just wedding talk.
Still, they made their first public appearance as an engaged couple on Thursday, attending the Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers game at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium. Fittingly, it’s the same stadium where, in September 2023, Swift confirmed her romance with Kelce by sitting with Donna during the Chiefs’ game against the Chicago Bears.
As one fan put it: “From the stands to the aisle — this love story is one for the books.”
