Florida tubing tragedy: 11-year-old Jordan Roe dies saving cousin in dock collision

An evening of tubing behind a jet ski on Beatty Bayou in Lynn Haven, Florida ended in tragedy last Friday, June 20, when the inflatable carrying Jordan Roe, 11, and her cousins Laila Robinson, 8, and Brylee Robinson, 9, slammed into a dock.

Witnesses say the 19-year-old family friend piloting the watercraft “came back to the dock too quickly,” sending the tube careening into the wooden structure.

  • Jordan and Laila were found on neighboring docks when first responders arrived.
  • All three girls were rushed to a local hospital; Jordan succumbed to her injuries, while Laila underwent emergency surgery and remains in grave condition.
  • Brylee escaped with minor injuries. The jet-ski driver also suffered minor injuries.

“She Sacrificed Her Life” — A Young Hero Remembered

Their aunt, Kristine Robinson, says the cousins had gathered for a barbecue to celebrate the last day of school.

“Jordan has always been the protector of all the kids,” Robinson told WJHG.
“She sacrificed her life and saved her cousin’s life with her own.”

Family members describe Jordan as a “free spirit, wise beyond her years” who dreamed of becoming a surgeon or veterinarian. Even in death, she continued protecting others: Jordan’s organs were donated, fulfilling a wish she had shared with relatives.

Long Road Ahead for Laila

Eight-year-old Laila has already undergone one surgery and faces several more.

“I just ask everyone, hold your babies tight… Please be careful,” her mother pleaded.

Jordan Roe, 11, tragically lost her life in a tubing accident on Beatty Bayou in Lynn Haven, Florida.

Community Rallies: Two GoFundMe Pages Launched

To offset mounting expenses, the family created separate campaigns:

  1. Medical fund for Laila’s ongoing care
  2. Funeral fund for Jordan’s memorial

Together they had raised over $2,000 by Thursday morning, with $50,000 targets on each page. Supporters can leave messages celebrating Jordan’s bravery and sending prayers for Laila’s recovery.

Investigation Underway

Both the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the Lynn Haven Police Department responded to the scene. The FWC has taken over the case.

“Three juveniles were transported to a local hospital, where, tragically, one later succumbed to their injuries… This incident remains under active investigation,” the agency said, extending “heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the victim.”

A Sobering Summer-Safety Reminder

Jordan’s story underscores how quickly fun on the water can turn fatal. As temperatures rise and rivers fill with families, authorities urge boat and jet-ski operators to:

  • Keep safe distances from docks, swimmers, and other vessels
  • Approach land slowly when towing riders
  • Ensure everyone wears proper life vests and helmets where required

Jordan Roe’s legacy is already inspiring neighbors and strangers alike to cherish their children, practice caution, and look out for one another, just as the 11-year-old “protector” always did.
