She was a devoted mother, a loving wife, and the heart of her young family. Now, the small town of Wilmer, Alabama, is mourning the loss of 27-year-old Brittney Sherman.
She is remembered for her gentle spirit, fierce love for her children, and the bond she shared with her high school sweetheart.
Brittney’s life was tragically cut short on June 15, 2025, after a devastating boat crash in Bayou Sara near Saraland, Alabama. She leaves behind a grieving husband, Cody Sherman, and their four young children, along with a community shaken by the loss.
A Day on the Water Turns to Tragedy
It was supposed to be a family outing.

The Sherman family was aboard a 20-foot Avid Center Console vessel when it collided with a 26-foot Regulator Center Console just before 6 p.m. According to officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the crash hurled Brittney into the murky bayou waters.
Despite immediate rescue efforts, visibility was limited. For hours, search crews combed the area. It wasn’t until the next morning, nearly 17 hours later, that Brittney’s body was recovered, about 100 yards from where she entered the water.
Her husband Cody and one of their children, 4-year-old Carson, were injured in the crash. Both were rushed to local hospitals for treatment. Cody was admitted to USA Health University Hospital, while Carson remains in critical condition.
High School Sweethearts, Forever Changed
Brittney and Cody’s love story spanned 15 years. Friends say they were inseparable since their teenage days, a real-life love story that only deepened through marriage and parenthood.
“Fifteen years with Cody just wasn’t long enough,” Brittney’s childhood best friend Lindsey Cooper wrote online. “A true love story. They adored each other so much.”

The couple was raising four children together, building a life filled with family outings, laughter, and unconditional love. Now, Cody is left navigating life as a single father, broken but determined.
“Please Show Me How to Do This”
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Cody took to Facebook with a series of heartbreaking tributes to his late wife.
“Brittney I love you more than anything in this world,” he wrote alongside a photo of Brittney holding one of their children. “I promise to take care of these babies for you sweetheart. I know that you are up there watching over us.”
“Please show me how to do this. I’m not sure how I’m gonna make it… I love you until we meet again!!”
He also shared a photo of Carson from the hospital, asking for prayers and calling his son “the toughest person I ever met.”
Rallying Behind the Sherman Family
A GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $70,000 to support the Sherman family through medical expenses, funeral costs, and day-to-day survival in the wake of such a massive loss.

“Cody Sherman and his family are going through something no one should ever have to face,” the fundraiser reads. “After a tragic boating accident, their world has been shattered.”
Gone Too Soon, Forever Remembered
As news of the accident spread, tributes poured in for Brittney Sherman, not just as a victim of tragedy, but as a devoted mother, loving wife, and genuine friend whose warmth touched everyone around her.
“She was one of the BEST moms and one of the most genuine people I’ve ever known,” a family friend wrote.
Another added: “This world lost a person that we should all strive to be every day.”
Brittney’s legacy lives on in the children she adored, the love story she built, and the countless lives she brightened in her 27 years. As Cody and their four kids move forward, one truth remains:
Her spirit, strength, and selflessness will never be forgotten.
