Vice President JD Vance, Usha Vance to make an important trip to a very special place

US vice-president JD Vance and his lovely wife Usha, will embark on a four-day official visit to India, where he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss a bilateral trade agreement.

While Modi shares a cordial relationship with Vanceโ€™s superior, President Donald Trump, the US president has also taken a tough stance on India in the pastโ€”calling it the โ€œtariff kingโ€ and accusing it of being a โ€œbig abuser.โ€

Mr Vance is expected to meet Prime Minister Modi on 21 April in New Delhi. The official talks are likely to cover a range of issues including economic cooperation, trade policy, and broader geopolitical matters.

Indiaโ€™s foreign ministry has expressed a warm welcome for the visit, which will also include the vice-presidentโ€™s wife, Usha Vance, their children, and several senior US officials.

Usha Vance is the daughter of Indian immigrants from the southern state of Andhra Pradesh.

Mr Vance is also expected to visit Jaipur and Agra during his trip, where he is likely to tour the Taj Mahal with his family. This will be his first visit to India since taking office and marks a key diplomatic mission on behalf of the Trump administration.

Accompanying him will be his wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, who is of Indian origin, along with their three children. The couple, who married in 2014, plan to visit several tourist attractions, including the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra and historical landmarks in Jaipur.

Despite Usha Vanceโ€™s family roots in India, the US Second Family is not expected to visit Andhra Pradesh, where several of her relatives still reside.

That includes her 96-year-old grandaunt, Professor Shantamma, and the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, where her grandfather, Professor C. Rama Sastry, once served as head of the physics department.
