The late Kobe joins a list of prominent figures in American history getting their own statue in the National Garden of American Heroes.
In a historic announcement, President Donald Trump revealed that a statue of the late Lakers legend Kobe Bryant will be placed in the National Garden of American Heroes.
This prestigious tribute ensures Bryant’s legacy is honored alongside a diverse group of influential figures, including civil rights leaders and iconic sports personalities.
As part of the celebrations for Black History Month, Bryant will be recognized alongside renowned American figures such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Muhammad Ali, both of whom will also be enshrined in the National Garden.
This initiative highlights Bryantโs lasting impact on sports and culture, cementing his place among the nationโs most revered heroes.
The National Garden of American Heroes, introduced by Trump in 2020, is dedicated to celebrating influential figures in American history.
Situated on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., the garden features statues, busts, and plaques recognizing the remarkable contributions of individuals from all walks of life.
Kobe Bryant and Donald Trump Relationship
In 2007, Trump attended a Lakers game at Madison Square Garden, eager to watch Kobe play. However, Bryant was suspended for that game due to an incident in a previous matchup. Trump, visibly disappointed, was heard saying:
โCame here to see my man, Kobe. Heโs great. Iโm sitting and saying, โWhat happened to Kobe?โ But I guess he had a little problem.โ His words reflected admiration for Kobeโs skill, even though they had no known personal friendship.
after Kobeโs tragic death in 2020, Trump acknowledged his greatness, tweeting, โOne of the truly great basketball players of all time.โ
