It was going to be a huge success, but only in their thoughts… Their latest Netflix documentary has attracted criticism
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s latest Netflix documentary, Polo, has struggled to capture the attention of audiences and critics alike. Despite focusing on the high-profile global sport, the documentary has failed to secure a spot in the top 10 rankings either in Britain or internationally.
Marketing expert Tony Case expressed doubts about the documentary’s success, labeling it a potential “colossal bomb” in comments to The Daily Beast. “They set out to conquer America, but nobody here, it turned out, found them or what they’re peddling to be particularly compelling,” he remarked.
The criticism doesn’t end there. Eric Schiffer, chairman of Reputation Management Consultants, shared a similarly harsh view with Newsweek, describing the production as “a pompous portrayal of privilege posing as a documentary.”
The Attention Shifts to Meghan’s Cooking Show
The disappointing performance of Polo has shifted attention to Meghan Markle’s upcoming cooking show, set for a 2025 release.
Although filming concluded in the summer, little has been revealed about the show’s title or a definitive release date. With the Sussexes’ multimillion-dollar Netflix deal nearing its 2025 expiration, insiders are questioning whether the project is worth pursuing after Polo‘s lackluster results.
“There won’t be another deal. There may be one-offs, but that’s it,” a source told The Mail, revealing that Meghan’s show has so far only been presented to a “tiny audience of executives in the US.”
Another insider echoed the sentiment, stating, “It’s make or break. People say Netflix are exhausted.” The looming uncertainty casts doubt on whether Meghan’s next venture can revive the Sussexes’ streaming prospects.
Is the royal pair leaving the USA?
In recent weeks, there have been rumors of the couple potentially moving away from the U.S., especially following the elections, with several destinations suggested, including Portugal as a leading contender. However, as of now, the pair will remain in America unless unforeseen changes occur.
