Prince Harry’s latest visit to the United Kingdom has sparked renewed attention after a reported nickname once used by royal insiders resurfaced amid fresh controversy surrounding his return.
As the Duke of Sussex traveled from California to promote the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, the trip quickly became overshadowed by disputes over royal accommodation, security, and claims from both Harry’s representatives and palace sources.
The visit was intended to mark the one-year countdown to the international sporting event, but discussions surrounding where Harry would stay and the security arrangements for his time in Britain soon dominated headlines.
According to Harry’s representatives, he had been invited to stay at Buckingham Palace but delayed confirming the offer while trying to arrange private security after being denied police protection. They alleged the invitation was later withdrawn before he could accept it.
Palace sources, however, disputed that version of events, maintaining that the invitation remained available for an extended period and included a clear deadline so preparations could be made. They claimed Harry’s team declined the offer within the required timeframe before later attempting to change course.
The nickname that has resurfaced
Amid the latest royal dispute, a striking three-word nickname reportedly once used for Prince Harry has returned to the spotlight: “Dukes of Hazard.”
Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive podcast, The Times’ Royal Editor Kate Mansey explained that the nickname was previously used for both Prince Harry and his uncle, Prince Andrew.
“It was Dukes of Hazard,” Mansey said. “That’s the nickname they had for Andrew and Harry because hazard, chaos followed both of them.”
She added that palace courtiers had described the pair as two of the King’s biggest challenges during his reign.
“They were the two big problems that were pointed out to me by courtiers, big hurdles for the king during his reign, alarm signals flash every time their names are mentioned.”
Mansey also suggested that officials inside the Palace have come to expect controversy whenever Harry returns to Britain.
“Do we expect this chaos every time Harry comes? Well yes, we do,” she said, adding that people she had spoken to at the Palace viewed the situation as “a pattern of behavior.”
Security remains at the center of the dispute
The debate over Harry’s security continued throughout the visit and remains one of the key issues surrounding his trips to the UK.
According to Mansey, each visit tends to be preceded by discussions about security and whether Harry’s family will accompany him. She also referenced Harry’s unsuccessful legal effort to regain an automatic right to police protection while in Britain.
“It seems every time he comes palace courtiers get more and more weary with it and frankly I think the public do too,” she said.
Despite the surrounding controversy, Harry attended events in Birmingham last Thursday to launch the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games, taking part in demonstrations alongside athletes who have previously competed in the competition.
Later in the visit, Meghan Markle joined Harry with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, after missing the earlier part of the trip. The family also met with King Charles during their time in the UK.
