Kaitlan Collins has become the subject of growing internal chatter, as attention shifts from her reporting credentials to the high-profile lifestyle that has accompanied her rise at CNN.
Rising profile brings new attention… & a new nickname
The 33-year-old journalist, originally from Alabama, has emerged as one of the network’s most prominent figures in recent years. Her career reached a milestone in 2021 when she became CNN’s youngest chief White House correspondent, placing her at the forefront of major political coverage in Washington.
At the time, Collins emphasized the importance of credibility within the press corps, stating that respect comes from being well-informed and delivering strong reporting.
Her rapid ascent has made her one of the most visible faces at CNN, but recent attention has focused less on her journalism and more on her public appearances and lifestyle.
According to the Daily Mail, media writer Matthew Belloni referred to Collins as the new holder of “the Don Lemon crown of CNN-er who most enjoys flying to LA for parties,” drawing a comparison and calling her by the former anchor’s name Don Lemon.
The outlet also cited an unnamed insider who suggested Collins appears increasingly drawn to the social benefits tied to her role. “Seems Collins cares more about the perks of journalism,” the source told the publication.
Over the past year, Collins has been seen attending several high-profile events, including the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles and Vanity Fair’s post-Oscars gathering, which was described in the report as off-limits to journalists.
Criticism from within the network has intensified, with one source telling the Daily Mail that “when you become more well-known as a red carpet influencer than a journalist, there’s a problem.”
Public Statements Contrast With Reports
Collins has publicly framed her role in markedly different terms. In a February 2021 interview with Forbes, she described her responsibility as ensuring audiences receive accurate and fair reporting when tuning in to coverage from the White House.
Her comments highlight a contrast between her stated professional priorities and the perception described by critics in recent reports.
The discussion has also revived comparisons to Don Lemon, who departed CNN in April 2023 following a period of controversy and reported internal tensions.
The renewed scrutiny comes at a time of uncertainty within CNN. Reports in June indicated that Warner Bros. Discovery is planning to split into two separate entities, separating its studio and streaming operations from traditional cable networks.
Additional reports have suggested staff concerns over potential salary reductions as the restructuring unfolds.

Amid this backdrop, Collins has also drawn attention for personal milestones. Page Six reported that she purchased a beach house in Nantucket, describing the property as “very expensive.” Data from Realtor.com indicated that the average home price in the area was about $4.5 million as of May 2025.
One colleague, speaking to Page Six, criticized the purchase, saying, “She just bought some bougie place and CNN people are grossed out that she paid so much.”
Collins has continued to appear at prominent events, including a political society wedding at the Palace of Westminster in September 2025 and subsequent appearances at celebrity gatherings in the new year.
According to the report, these appearances have fueled ongoing internal discussion, with one source concluding that “the all-about-me journalism is clearly in the DNA at CNN – and Collins is no exception.”
