Dolly wanted a new living room set, but her husband kept saying,
“No.”
Every day she would ask him to please let her buy it.
Every day he would say,
“No.”
Finally, he decided to end the discussion once and for all.
The next time Dolly asked, he looked at her and said,
“Dolly, if I bought you a new living room set, then you’d want a new rug to go with it. Then you’d want new curtains to match the rug. Then you’d want new paint to match the curtains. Then you’d want new lamps to match the paint. Then you’d want new pictures to match the lamps.”
Dolly thought about it for a moment and said,
“You’re right. I never realized that.”
Her husband smiled, thinking he’d finally won the argument.
Then Dolly added,
“Let’s start with the new living room set.”
