Joe Biden makes quiet public appearance in California amid ongoing cancer treatment
Former President Joe Biden was recently seen in Santa Monica, California, as he continues to navigate a serious health battle while remaining engaged in public life.

According to Page Six, Biden and his wife Jill Biden dined at the well-known restaurant Giorgio Baldi alongside former Ambassador to Switzerland Scott Miller and his husband, activist Tim Gill. The outing comes during a challenging period for the former president, who was diagnosed in May 2025 with an aggressive stage 4 prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.

The report notes that Biden remained largely reserved throughout the evening, speaking minimally during dinner while Jill Biden led most of the conversation. However, diners observed a lighter moment when he joined in singing “Happy Birthday” to guests seated nearby.
A measured presence during a difficult chapter
Those present at the restaurant told Page Six that Biden became slightly more engaged later in the evening, speaking more during dessert after remaining mostly quiet earlier on.
His appearance marks one of the few public sightings since early March, when he delivered a eulogy for civil rights activist Jesse Jackson in Chicago. Despite his health challenges, the former president has continued to appear at select events and gatherings.
Security was visible outside the restaurant, with police reportedly lining the street, while inside, Secret Service presence remained discreet, according to the outlet.
Health updates and ongoing work
Jill Biden recently shared an update on her husband’s condition while speaking with the Associated Press. She acknowledged the long-term nature of his diagnosis, explaining that the cancer’s spread to his bones means it will remain a lifelong condition.
She also relayed that doctors expect the 83-year-old to live out his natural life, adding a note of personal humor about their future together.

Biden completed a round of radiation treatment in October and is said to be responding well to therapy, according to those familiar with his care.
The couple’s trip to California also includes meetings with supporters and donors, as they continue to build their foundation and move forward with plans for a future Biden Presidential Library. They were also reported to have spent Easter in Santa Ynez on California’s Central Coast.

Biden previously nominated Scott Miller as ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein during his presidency, with Miller serving in the role until October 2025.
Even as he manages a serious illness, Biden’s recent appearance underscores his continued involvement in both personal and public commitments.
