Jesse Watters reveals surprising off-screen relationship with Fox News colleague

Viewers of The Five have long watched Jessica Tarlov and Jesse Watters clash during heated on-air debates. But away from the cameras, their relationship appears far more amicable than many might expect.

Tarlov and Watters frequently spar over their opposing political views, often engaging in sharp but playful exchanges that have become a defining feature of the program. Their dynamic has led some viewers to assume genuine tension exists between them.

However, Watters has suggested otherwise. Speaking in a recent conversation with Sage Steele, he described Tarlov in positive terms and clarified the nature of their relationship.

“Jessica’s great,” Watters said, adding that despite their debates, the two are on good terms off-camera. He also acknowledged his tendency to interrupt her during discussions, noting that he has been making an effort to be more respectful in their exchanges.

Watters went on to admit that he can sometimes come across as “condescending,” but emphasized that there is no personal animosity. “Jessica and I are friendly… we don’t hang out on the weekends, but we’re good,” he said.

Building a Bond Beyond the Studio

The pair’s working relationship dates back years, including appearances on Hannity before they became regular co-hosts on The Five. During that time, they even commuted together, often taking the subway after filming when they lived in the same area.

Watters pointed to those shared routines as a key reason their on-screen disagreements do not spill into real-life conflict. The familiarity developed outside the studio helped establish a level of mutual understanding, even as they continued to debate fiercely on-air.

Adding another perspective, astrologer Louise Muir-Sage suggested their personalities may naturally align despite public disagreements. She described them as a “water-sign duo,” noting that Watters is a Cancer and Tarlov a Pisces.

According to Muir-Sage, people with these signs often connect on an intuitive and emotional level, which could explain their ability to separate professional disagreements from personal rapport. She also noted that their arguments may appear intense because such personalities tend to invest deeply in debates.

At the same time, she emphasized that their on-air clashes are likely shaped by the format of the show itself, where opposing viewpoints are part of the appeal.

While their televised debates may seem fiery, those closest to the situation suggest the tension is largely professional—leaving room for a surprisingly cordial relationship behind the scenes.
