Jamie Lee Curtis reveals she is a grandmother after keeping grandson’s birth a secret

Jamie Lee Curtis has shared a deeply personal milestone, revealing that she quietly became a grandmother late last year.

The 67-year-old actress made the announcement during an appearance on the podcast hosted by Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson. Speaking candidly, Curtis explained that her eldest daughter, Annie, 39, welcomed a baby boy in December with her husband, Jason Wolf.

“My husband and I became grandparents to our eldest daughter and her husband,” Curtis said, confirming the news publicly for the first time.

Curtis, who is married to Christopher Guest, described the experience as both joyful and emotionally complex, reflecting on the challenges and rewards of parenting and now grandparenting.

The loss of Rob & Michele Reiner

The timing of the birth carried additional emotional weight for the family. Curtis shared that Annie’s son was born just one week after the deaths of her godparents, Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner.

According to Curtis, the loss occurred on Annie’s birthday, making the period especially difficult. She became visibly emotional while recounting how her daughter navigated both grief and new life.

“Their baby boy was born in December… and it was a week after Rob and Michele died,” Curtis said, describing how her daughter processed the loss before welcoming her son.

Why the Family Kept the News Quiet

Curtis also explained why the family chose not to share the news immediately. She said the birth had been kept private, with only close friends and family aware of the new addition.

“We never talked about it. It’s been a private matter,” she noted, adding that she wanted to respect her daughter’s wishes.

Before making the announcement, Curtis said she spoke directly with Annie to ask for permission. Her daughter agreed, particularly because the conversation was taking place with Michelle Obama, whom she admires.

Curtis relayed her daughter’s message, saying, “Tell her I love her,” and explained that the decision to share the news was influenced by the respect her daughter holds for the former First Lady.

Curtis emphasized that the podcast marked the first time she publicly acknowledged becoming a grandmother. She described the moment as especially meaningful given the setting and the person she was speaking with.

“It’s really thrilling to me that the first time I’m going to say to the universe that I became a granny is here,” Curtis said, highlighting the significance of the occasion.

The actress is also a mother to her younger daughter, Ruby, 30, and has often spoken about the importance of family in her life.
