A Utah community is mourning the deaths of a fire captain, his wife and their three sons after the family was caught in a flash flood during a trip through a southern Utah canyon.
Provo Fire Captain Spencer Long was with his wife, Katrina, and their sons Reid, Thayne and Gage at Sunglow Campground near Bicknell on Friday when heavy rain caused flooding in the area.
All five members of the Long family died in the disaster, leaving behind the couple’s surviving daughter, Lydia, who was not with them at the time.
Search leads to devastating discovery
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said the family is believed to have “fallen victim to flooding caused by heavy rains.”
Deputies were called to the campground on Friday night after the body of a young man was discovered in the flood wash. The remains of the other four family members were recovered later
