She followed that role with an appearance in the Walt Disney Productions film Scandalous John the following year.
Throughout the 1970s, Currie secured smaller parts in a wide range of popular television programs. Her credits from the decade included Ironside, Adam-12, The Odd Couple, Starsky and Hutch, Eight Is Enough and The Incredible Hulk.
She also appeared in the films Teenage Seductress in 1975 and The Concrete Jungle in 1982.
Currie built her career through recurring work as a character actress, appearing across numerous well-known television series rather than becoming identified with only one program.
Roles across several decades of television
Currie continued working throughout the 1980s, appearing in the film The Last Married Couple in America. She also shared the screen with David Hasselhoff in a 1982 episode of Knight Rider.
Her other television work during the decade included appearances in Three’s Company, Misfits of Science, The Golden Girls and Simon & Simon.
In 1990, she joined Peter Falk in the television movie Columbo: Murder in Malibu. One year later, she returned to the Columbo franchise as Sgt. Hubach in Columbo and the Murder of a Rock Star.
Currie subsequently appeared in programs and soap operas including Days of Our Lives, Murder, She Wrote, Touched by an Angel, Cheers and The Bold and the Beautiful.
Her acting work continued through the 1990s and 2000s with roles in ER, 7th Heaven, NCIS and The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
A new audience through ‘The Hangover’
Currie returned to the big screen in 2009 as Linda, the mother of Zach Galifianakis’ character, in The Hangover. The successful comedy also starred Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha and Heather Graham.
She later appeared in the subsequent films, establishing her connection to the full Hangover trilogy.
During a previous interview with How to Be a Redhead, Currie spoke warmly about her experience working with the cast.
“We are a family,” she said, adding that Cooper was “very kind and very focused” and that his success had never gone to his head.
“The guys are pals when you hang out with them and they include you in everything,” Currie continued. “I feel very lucky and blessed to have worked with such a great team of people.”
Her portrayal of Linda introduced Currie to a modern movie audience nearly four decades after her first film appearance.
Recent work and family connections
Currie’s later credits include episodes of Tyler Perry’s Love Thy Neighbor and the 2020 film American Zombieland. She also appeared in the short film Unfinished Business in 2022 and the series Mrs. Davis in 2023.
Away from film and television, she has performed on stage in productions including Death of a Salesman and After the Fall.
Currie is also the older sister of twins Marie and Cherie Currie. Cherie became known as the lead vocalist of The Runaways, while the sisters Marie and Cherie released the 1980 album Messin’ with the Boys, which featured the track “Since You Been Gone.”
The Daily Mail reported that it contacted Currie’s representatives regarding her recent Los Angeles appearance but had not received a response.
