The Nerazzurri coach addresses the challenge against Genoa, the last team to stop Inter: “They are an Opponent to be faced with caution. We will make some changes in the formation.”
Inter is chasing their twelfth consecutive victory in as many games played in 2024, including league matches, the Italian Super Cup, and the Champions League. They will do so on Monday night at San Siro against Alberto Gilardino’s Genoa. Simone Inzaghi knows well that every match presents challenges, and Genoa is no exception. “Now we need to keep going like this. We’ve played these two months in the best possible way, but we know that starting from tomorrow, we face a very tough match, and many more will follow. We need to keep working with speed, aggression, and determination,” said the Inter coach.
The opponent is among the trickiest to face at this stage of the season. “Certainly, it will be a tough, difficult match. Genoa is an excellent team, they have reached 33 points and is having a great season. In their last 12 games, I think they only lost to Atalanta in the final minutes. They’re a team in form that we’ll have to face with a lot of attention. They defend well and attack equally well. We’ll need to have tremendous concentration.” he added.
Regarding the lineup, Inzaghi confirms there will be some changes: “There will be changes in the formation, but I’m lucky to have the players available. Unfortunately, some will be missing tomorrow as well, but we’ve seen that with so many games, not every player is always available. However, all those who have been called upon have given me excellent responses.”
The last match without a win for Inter dates back to the first leg clash at Marassi: on December 29th, it ended 1-1 with the controversial goal by Arnautovic before Dragusin’s equalizer. In case of success, Inzaghi’s team would reach 72 points, the same as the entire 2022-2023 season, but with still ten games to play. It would be the ninth consecutive victory in Serie A, a feat not achieved since January-April 2021, under Antonio Conte’s guidance.
