Arrigo Sacchi, the guru of Italian coaches, boasting two European Cup titles won with Milan in 1989 and 1990, is back to comment on Inter’s affairs, focusing particularly on the Nerazzurri’s style of play and the work of Inter’s coach, Simone Inzaghi.
INTER AS SERIE A LEADERS
Sacchi writes to Gazzetta dello Sport: “I suggest three words that, in my opinion, perfectly define Inter: strength, experience, technique. I could add more, but I believe that Simone Inzaghi’s team is mainly characterized by these terms. Against Roma at the Olimpico, in a far-from-easy away match, they showed great solidity, remarkable maturity, and a spirit of sacrifice: everyone helps each other, everyone collaborates, everyone tries to contribute to the cause. This is a promising sign for the remainder of the season, where Inter will be the main protagonist.”
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE VICTORY POSSIBLE
In Serie A, Inter leads the standings, with a seven-point advantage over Juventus (pending the completion of Juve-Udinese and the Inter-Atalanta rescheduled match). In the Champions League, they will play the round of 16 against Atletico Madrid (first leg on February 20 in Milan, second leg on March 13 in Madrid), and Sacchi has no doubts: “Inzaghi has evolved; now he’s a coach who can win the Champions League.” It’s worth noting that Sacchi was previously critical of the style of play exhibited by Inzaghi’s Inter in European competitions.
