The Nerazzurri coach secures his fifth trophy in two and a half years, but now the Inter world is asking for the second star of the Scudetto.
Simone Inzaghi has enriched Inter’s cabinet with five trophies: three Italian Supercups and two Coppa Italia. A haul that places him among the most successful Inter coaches of all the times. However, something is still missing.
To win this Supercoppa, Inter needed to win 2 matches (it used to be just one until last year). For the Coppa Italia, only five are required, usually with the first being relatively easy. As for the Champions League, assuming a good seeding in the group stage, seven are needed. We can easily come to this conclusion: Simone Inzaghi is currently one of the best coach in Cup competitions.
However, something is lacking. Inter executives never miss an opportunity to remind him. The phrase “second star” often appears in interviews. This year’s Inter has the duty to win its 20th Scudetto, and Inzaghi, adept in Cup competitions, must prove his ability to win the marathon. However, Juventus is there and will fight until the end.
Inzaghi has already shown he is a “good coach” (even taking compliments from the likes of Pep Guardiola); now he must earn the label of a “great coach.” Two seasons ago, this label was ready to be applied to his jacket, but it remained in the drawer. For one poorly managed match, against Bologna for a mistake commited by the then third goalkeeper Ionut Radu.
But now he has the chance, Inter has everything to go out there and win the Scudetto. A Scudetto that would transform Inzaghi’s name forever, taking him to a new level. At this point everything remains open but based on everything that we have seen so far, Inter are the clear favorites.
