If there was any valid alternative at the moment, Stefano Pioli would have already been removed from the Milan bench. According to the report by Repubblica, potential replacements for the Rossoneri coach could have been Galtier or Gallardo if both hadn’t already taken positions in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
The proposed interim solution, which leads to Ignazio Abate, isn’t gaining much favor with the management. The preferred choices for the coaching role are still Conte and De Zerbi. While Conte is currently without a club, De Zerbi is achieving great results with Brighton in the Premier League.
If he were to consider a change, it’s likely to be with another English team. On the other hand, Conte is free and he could step in potentially immediately. Milan appears ready to make a financial sacrifice, taking into account Conte’s high salary, and also need to settle the remainder of Pioli’s contract, which expires in 2025.
Repubblica reports that Ibrahimovic, a big fan of Conte, and is waiting to secure a clear role within the club so that he can persuade Conte to join mid-season. However, Conte is not keen on this idea, having rejected a similar offer from De Laurentiis just few months ago.
Conte’s coaching style requires specific work during summer preparation, and his past mid-season experiences at Atalanta and Tottenham were not successful. Unless unexpected positive developments occur, this season is likely to be Pioli’s last at Milan. If he manages to stay until the season’s end, Conte seems poised to take over in June.
