Zlatan will have an active role in sporting and marketing operations: ‘A decision I did not take lightly.’
The official announcement was the only thing missing, and now it has also arrived. Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns to Milan, not as a player, as had happened in the past, but in his new role as an executive.
The statement from the Rossoneri club thus puts an end to the long-awaited confirmation and the many questions that have been circulating for months about the Swedish striker’s return to San Siro
MILAN’S STATEMENT
“Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns to Milan to strengthen our winning culture,” reads the statement. “Ibra will be an operational partner and will collaborate with the company’s global investment team. Zlatan will hold the position of senior advisor to the ownership, working closely with ownership and management, playing an active role in sporting and commercial operations. Among other things; he will be involved in player development, high-performance training, and special projects such as the new stadium.”
Perhaps not coincidentally, the announcement came today, at a very delicate moment for Milan, coming off a tough defeat in Bergamo against Atalanta and on the eve of the decisive Champions League clash with Newcastle, where the Rossoneri will play their remaining hopes of continuing their European adventure.
IBRA’S WORDS
“My love for the Rossoneri will never end, and the opportunity to be a significant part of their future is something I could only dream of,” said Zlatan, commenting on his return to Milan. “I am grateful to Gerry Cardinale for providing me with this opportunity. This is not a decision I take lightly. I have thought long and intensely about the early steps of my post-playing career, and I couldn’t be more excited to start this journey as a member of RedBird and Milan. For me and my family, this is truly a homecoming.“
