0-3 to 3-3 in 45 mins, Inzaghi: ‘I have 20 starters. Here’s what I said to the team at halftime.

Simone Inzaghi, Inter’s coach, also spoke to Sky Sport after the 3-3 draw against Benfica:

“This comeback is a sign; the team showed a great reaction after starting the game in the worst way possible. We didn’t approach the first half as we should have against a great team like Benfica. During the half time we told ourselves that we needed to cover the field better, and with Barella’s shot, we could have even won.

Why was the approach wrong? “We didn’t start well, and this should not have happened. There was a lack of concentration, and we paid for it. Then we came back by deservedly equalizing the game and putting things to normal in the second half.”

Necessary turnover? “We made a lot of changes, but I am not going to complain, here at Inter I have 20 starters, I have to try to use them all.”

What did you like the most today? “I am satisfied with the reaction in the second half. In the first, we all had to do better, myself included, but I knew I could count on the entire squad.”

What did you say to the team after the first half? “I said to them that it would have been easy for me to take off 4 or 5 players, but at that moment, it wasn’t the right solution because everyone was underperforming. In football, one episode is enough to change all the things; I asked for a different approach and determination. The players reacted.”

With Napoli, will it be a challenge for the title? “Absolutely. They are a great team, the reigning champions of Italy. They too, had a difficult night tonight (Against Real Madrid). It will be a beautiful challenge; both teams will want to play for the 3 points.”
