Big defeat, Feyenoord Lazio 3-1. Sarri explains the reasons for the heavy loss.

The Lazio coach after the Champions League defeat to Feyenoord: “We must give 101% to stay in this competition.”

Maurizio Sarri seemed uneasy after the heavy defeat suffered in Rotterdam against Feyenoord: “We were really shy in the first half; we were fearful of their aggression and pressure,” said Lazio’s coach to Sky. “We were too passive, even though what we were going to deal with. I expected much more personality from my team.”

“When we conceded the first goal, it was expected and could happen, but the second goal came at a time when it shouldn’t have. We could have ended the first half 1-0, and in the second half, we had several goal-scoring opportunities.”

“The count of chances is not significantly different between us and them, but I was not pleased with the first half at all. When the opponents are so aggressive, just stringing together three passes can open up huge spaces, but we were afraid of making mistakes, and as a result, we made them.”

Physical differences? I saw a difference in emotional and nervous intensity, and they certainly have players with great stamina that we don’t have. Defensive phase? There’s work to be done on everything; the level of aggression wasn’t right. We did well in the last 20-25 minutes, but it was too late.”

“Now we have two home games, and we need to make the most of them. In a group of six matches, losing one can be problematic if the attitude is like tonight. In this competition, we either give 101% or we can’t compete.
