Alyssa Farah Griffin has opened up about a frightening health ordeal involving her infant son, revealing that the three-month-old recently underwent surgery on his skull.
The View co-host, 37, discussed the experience on the show’s Behind the Table podcast, explaining that her son, Justin Jr., required craniofacial surgery performed by a neurosurgeon.
Griffin described the operation as the “scariest moment of my life,” but shared the welcome news that her baby has since made a “perfect, full recovery.”
Griffin welcomed Justin Jr., her first child with husband Justin Griffin, in February after a lengthy journey to become a mother.
A routine check-up led to an urgent referral
According to Griffin, the problem was discovered after the family’s pediatrician noticed what she described as a “slight inconsistency in his head” during a check-up.
The doctor recommended that the parents take their son to see a neurosurgeon immediately.
Griffin explained on Behind the Table that the condition involved the possibility of the skull fusing together prematurely, potentially creating physical and developmental problems as the child’s brain continued to grow.
“He had to have cranial facial surgery which is performed by a neurosurgeon. It’s actually surgery on the skull,” she said.
Timing became particularly important. Griffin said undergoing the procedure at three months allowed doctors to perform a less invasive operation while providing an opportunity to address the problem before it became more significant or difficult for her son to recover from.
What began with a pediatrician noticing a small irregularity ultimately resulted in the new parents having to prepare their three-month-old for surgery.
Griffin recalls the ‘scariest moment’ of her life
For Griffin, the experience was especially difficult as a first-time mother.
She said she had to put her trust in her husband, their community and the medical professionals caring for her son.
“Knowing he was going under when he’s this little boy” was frightening, Griffin recalled.
One of her biggest concerns involved the risk of blood loss during the operation. Griffin said she and her husband had to approve the possibility of their baby receiving a blood transfusion if necessary.
“Having to sign off on him having a blood transfusion and all that was so scary,” she said.
Despite those fears, Griffin said Justin Jr. came through the procedure successfully and has made a full recovery.
Her son will now wear a helmet for a year as his skull continues healing and developing.
“He has an extra layer of protection and he doesn’t mind it one bit,” Griffin said, finding some humor in the situation by adding, “He looks so cute. He looks like an old timey football player.”
A difficult journey to becoming a mother
The surgery came only months after Griffin and her husband welcomed their first child following a challenging path to parenthood.
Griffin announced her pregnancy in October 2025 and revealed that she had undergone IVF. She said the process lasted approximately a year and required five rounds before she became pregnant.
“I’m so overjoyed,” she said while announcing the pregnancy. “I went through IVF. It was hard.”\
Griffin also previously told People that she was diagnosed with endometriosis during the process, saying the condition had gone undiagnosed throughout her life and added further complications.
She and Justin had dated for years before becoming engaged in July 2020. They married in November 2021 in Vero Beach, Florida.
After the long road to welcoming their son and the frightening experience of seeing him undergo surgery at just three months old, Griffin’s latest update brought the news her family had hoped for: Justin Jr. has recovered successfully and is now continuing the healing process at home.
