Natalie Harp has become an increasingly visible presence within President Donald Trump’s inner circle, traveling with him, managing information and helping shape the material that reaches his desk and social-media accounts.
The 34-year-old officially serves as a special assistant and executive assistant to the president. Her responsibilities and proximity to Trump, however, have attracted growing attention from political opponents, journalists and members of the administration.
Harp was among the small group Trump reportedly took with him when he left Air Force One in a food cart and returned from a NATO conference aboard a different aircraft because of security concerns.
Her inclusion reinforced her position as one of the aides trusted to remain alongside the president during sensitive and unexpected situations.
Democrats turn their attention toward Harp
Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff recently criticized Trump by referring directly to Harp and the president’s travel arrangements.
“He doesn’t want to do the job; he wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar,” Ossoff said.
The criticism placed Harp’s relationship with Trump under renewed public scrutiny.
She is frequently photographed walking behind the president, traveling aboard Air Force One and working near him at official events. Her commitment has also reportedly surprised some members of Trump’s team.
According to letters cited in Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, Harp once told Trump, “You are all that matters to me.”
She also wrote that she wanted to recover the relationship they previously shared, when they would “talk about everything and nothing.”
“I want to bring you joy,” Harp wrote, “to feel like we can get through a day without ever having to talk ‘work.’”
The personal tone of those messages has contributed to questions surrounding a professional relationship already defined by unusual access and loyalty.
A health battle introduced Harp to the public
Harp grew up in California and graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2012.
She later earned an MBA from Liberty University in 2015.
Her first major connection to Trump’s political movement developed through her experience with Stage 2 cancer.
In a 2019 LinkedIn post, Harp described herself as a “Millennial woman fighting cancer” and criticized the healthcare environment in her Democratic-controlled state.
She said two chemotherapy treatments had failed and that she had been unable to enter clinical trials. Harp eventually received an FDA-approved immunotherapy medication for a use that had not been approved.
She credited the Right to Try legislation passed during Trump’s first term with giving her an opportunity that helped save her life.
That account has been disputed because Right to Try was designed to provide access to medications that had not been “approved or licensed by the FDA for any use.” Harp said the immunotherapy drug she received had FDA approval but was used for an unapproved purpose.
Harp has consistently presented the legislation as a source of lifesaving hope, although questions remain about whether the law directly enabled her treatment.
A television appearance brought her to Trump’s attention
Harp discussed her experience during a 2019 appearance on Fox & Friends.
Trump joined the same episode by telephone and later praised her publicly.
“Natalie Harp, fighting Stage 2 Cancer and doing really well, was a GREAT guest on @foxandfriends,” Trump wrote on X. “Right To Try is producing some truly spectacular results. Proud of Natalie!”
The appearance provided an early connection between Harp and the future president she would eventually serve.
Trump invited her to speak at the 2020 Republican National Convention one year later.
Harp went on to work as a presenter for One America News Network from 2020 until 2022. During her time at the network, she repeated claims that Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory resulted from fraud.
She left television and joined Trump’s operation in 2022.
Within a relatively short period, Harp moved from praising Trump’s healthcare policies on television to becoming one of the most trusted people working beside him.
The family tragedy behind her political rise
Harp’s brother, Preston, told the Daily Mail that their father died by suicide approximately one month before her appearance at the 2020 Republican National Convention.
Harp and her mother subsequently moved into an apartment near Mar-a-Lago.
Preston said he became estranged from his sister and had not spoken with her since that period.

Journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan examined Harp’s position in their book Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump.
They described her as an “ever-present” presence within the Oval Office.
According to their account, Harp usually sat to the side with her laptop open and listened without joining conversations unless Trump asked her to do something.
“Harp was generally on a chair off to the side, her laptop open, head cocked, listening but never contributing unless ordered to by Trump,” the authors wrote.
They said she responded immediately to requests ranging from retrieving “Trump 2028” merchandise to conducting a quick Google search or printing a recent story from Breitbart or Gateway Pundit.
Her influence does not necessarily come from speaking during meetings, but from her speed, access and readiness to carry out Trump’s requests.
Trump reportedly praised her loyalty
According to Regime Change, Trump once described Harp as the “only one who loved him as much as his wife and kids.”
“All of you will go off and make money,” he reportedly told staff members. “She’ll never leave me.”
The remarks portrayed Harp’s loyalty as something Trump viewed differently from the ambitions of other people working around him.
Following publication of the book, White House spokesperson Kush Desai defended both Harp and the loyalty Trump inspires among members of his administration.
“No president has cultivated as much loyalty among their staffers and administration officials as President Trump; this is a testament to his commitment to our country and its people,” Desai told People.
“Natalie Harp is a beloved White House Official, and the Fake News Media will never understand what it’s like to be as trusted and admired as her,” he added.
The White House has presented Harp’s closeness to the president as evidence of professional trust, rejecting negative interpretations of their relationship.
Her reported role in Trump’s online presence
Harp’s responsibilities reportedly extend beyond collecting and printing information.
She is also said to help manage Trump’s online communications by preparing draft posts and bringing them to him for approval.
That responsibility placed her under scrutiny in May when The Wall Street Journal reported that she was behind two controversial posts on Trump’s Truth Social account.
One included a racist depiction of Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys. The other was an AI-generated image presenting Trump as Jesus.
Both posts were removed following widespread criticism.
