Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance have welcomed their fourth child, announcing the arrival of their newborn son, Alec Neel Vance.
The couple shared the news on Sunday, confirming that their baby boy was born that morning and that both mother and child are healthy. They also said their three older children are excited to welcome their newest sibling into the family.
In a joint announcement shared on social media, the Vances wrote: “We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.”
The couple also expressed gratitude to the medical teams who cared for them during the delivery, thanking the staff at Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit for their support.
A growing family celebrates its newest arrival
Alec Neel is the fourth child for JD and Usha Vance, who have been married since 2014 after meeting while attending Yale Law School.
The couple are also parents to sons Ewan and Vivek and daughter Mirabel, with their older children drawing public attention earlier this year while accompanying their parents during Inauguration Day events in Washington, D.C.
The Vances first announced in January that they were expecting another baby. At the time, they told supporters they were looking forward to welcoming their newest son later this month.
Sunday’s announcement marked the arrival of the family’s third son and newest addition, as the Vances begin a new chapter with four young children.
Birth marks a rare moment in vice presidential history
Beyond the family celebration, Alec Neel’s birth also carries historical significance.
According to reports, Usha Vance is the first sitting second lady to give birth in 156 years. The last comparable event occurred when Vice President Schuyler Colfax Jr. and his wife, Ellen, welcomed their son, Schuyler Colfax III, more than a century and a half ago.
The birth also comes during a period in which several senior members of the Trump administration have expanded their families. White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller and his wife Katie recently welcomed a son, while White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt gave birth to a daughter earlier this year.
Reports also noted that JD Vance has said he is not expected to take parental leave following the birth of his fourth child.
Family values have remained central to the Vances
JD Vance has frequently spoken about supporting families and encouraging parenthood during his time in public office.
In one of his first speeches as vice president, he said his administration would work to support new mothers and young families while also promoting adoption and foster care.
Usha Vance has also previously shared that conversations with Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, played a role in the couple’s decision to have a fourth child. She explained that those discussions strengthened her husband’s belief that there was room in their family to welcome another child and love him just as deeply as their other three children.

President Donald Trump has publicly congratulated Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance following the birth of their fourth child, sharing the first photo of the couple’s newborn son and describing him as a “perfect baby boy.”
Trump posted the image on Monday, one day after the Vance family announced the arrival of baby Alec Neel Vance.
Alongside the photo, the president wrote: “Congratulations! A perfect baby boy for the wonderful Vance family.”
The image showed newborn Alec being held by his older brother Vivek while his sister Mirabel sat beside them, offering the public its first glimpse of the newest member of the Vance family.
