Georgia family devastated after twin toddlers die in pond near home

A Georgia family is grieving an unthinkable loss after two three-year-old twins were found unresponsive in a pond behind their home in Cordele. Authorities say the children drowned after wandering away from the property, in what has been described as a tragic accident.

Emergency responders were called to the residence in the Pine Hills Country Club community shortly after 11 a.m. on Wednesday. According to reporting from the Daily Mail, deputies with the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office arrived to find the children in the water behind the home.

Despite immediate rescue efforts, including life-saving measures at the scene, the toddlers were transported to a nearby hospital where they later died.

Crisp County coroner Richard Wright told the Daily Mail that both children drowned and confirmed that no foul play is suspected, describing the incident as a “freak accident.”

Investigation underway as details remain unclear

Officials have not publicly confirmed who was supervising the children at the time they left the home, and it remains unclear how they reached the pond. Authorities noted that the property includes a fenced backyard adjacent to the water, based on real estate listings cited by the Daily Mail.

The case is currently being reviewed by the Cordele Police Department along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is standard procedure in incidents involving child deaths.

Police issued a statement expressing sympathy for those affected, urging the public to keep the family in their thoughts during what they described as an extremely difficult time.

The twins’ grandmother, Fran Bumbalough Brown, publicly confirmed the loss in a message shared on social media. “Yesterday morning about 11:00 am, we lost our three-year-old twins to heaven,” she wrote, describing the pain felt by the family as “unimaginable.”

She added that while she finds comfort in her faith, the grief has been overwhelming, and she asked for prayers and support from the community.

An obituary shared by the family described the twins as bringing joy, laughter, and love to those around them, noting that their memory will continue to live on despite their short lives.

A family marked by past loss

The tragedy has struck a family already familiar with grief. The twins’ mother, Angie Brown, previously lost her husband, Benjamin Davis, in 2021 at the age of 38.
