A young couple invited their parson over for Sunday dinner. They wanted everything to be perfect, so they spent the afternoon in the kitchen preparing the meal.
While they were busy cooking, the minister sat in the living room and began chatting with their young son, who was playing with his toy cars on the floor.
Trying to make friendly conversation, the minister smiled and asked,
“So, young man… do you know what we’re having for dinner tonight?”
The little boy looked up confidently and said,
“Goat.”
The minister blinked in surprise.
“Goat?” he said. “Are you sure about that?”
“Yes sir,” the boy replied proudly.
The minister chuckled nervously. “Well… that’s certainly unusual. What makes you think we’re having goat?”
The boy shrugged and said,
“Because I heard Pa say to Ma in the kitchen,
‘Might as well have the old goat for dinner today as any other day.’”
