Rumors of long-simmering tension between Melania Trump and her stepdaughter Ivanka Trump are back in the spotlight, and an old, pointed nickname is returning to the spotlight.
As reports swirl over Ivanka’s absence from Melania’s upcoming Amazon documentary, a pair of allegedly snarky nicknames exchanged between the two women has resurfaced, reigniting speculation about a relationship long described by insiders as strained.
The Nicknames That Wouldn’t Go Away
The story dates back to 2020, when journalist Mary Jordan published her biography The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump. In the book, Jordan claimed that Ivanka privately referred to her stepmother as “The Portrait,” while Melania allegedly called Ivanka “The Princess.”

At the time, the nicknames were presented as shorthand for deeper, ongoing friction, and years later, they continue to be cited whenever rumors of discord resurface.
Early White House Friction
According to Jordan’s reporting, the tension took shape early in Donald Trump’s first term. When Melania and her son Barron remained in New York for several months so he could finish the school year, Ivanka, then a senior White House advisor, reportedly became more visible within the residence.
Jordan wrote that Ivanka enjoyed access to parts of the White House typically reserved for the First Lady, including the private theater, and even explored rebranding the Office of the First Lady as the “First Family’s Office,” a move said to have angered Melania once she returned to Washington.

More Claims From Inside Melania’s Circle
Similar themes appeared in Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship with the First Lady, written by Melania’s former advisor Stephanie Winston Wolkoff.
In her memoir, Wolkoff suggested Ivanka attempted to fill a perceived void, portraying her as eager to step into a quasi–First Lady role through public messaging, policy advocacy, and constant visibility.
While both books relied on insider perspectives rather than direct statements from the Trumps themselves, together they cemented the narrative of a complicated dynamic between the two women.

Amazon Documentary Fuels New Speculation
Now, the alleged rift is drawing fresh attention ahead of Melania’s Amazon documentary, Melania, set to debut on January 30.
Notably absent from the film? Ivanka.
Sources speaking to Rob Shuter’s Substack claim the omission was intentional. One insider said the two “do not get along, not at all,” adding that Melania made it clear she didn’t want Ivanka involved in the project.
“There’s zero love lost,” the source claimed, describing Ivanka’s absence as deliberate rather than accidental.
A Relationship Still Under a Microscope
Neither Melania nor Ivanka has publicly addressed the revived nickname claims or the reported documentary exclusion. Still, the renewed chatter suggests that whatever distance once existed between them hasn’t fully faded with time.
As Melania steps back into the public eye through her documentary, old stories, and old nicknames, appear to be following close behind, ensuring that questions about her relationship with Ivanka remain very much part of the conversation.
