Fans find it surprising to learn that the rapper has been married for over 27 years
We all know about Snoop Dogg and his amazing career, but fans know very little about his personal life. Beyond his star power, Snoop has been married for over 20 years, keeping his personal life impressively private. Here’s what we know about their enduring love story.
Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., first crossed paths with his wife Shante Broadus at Long Beach’s Polytechnic High School in California.
Reflecting on their early romance during an interview on the DJ Suss One radio show, Snoop shared how much effort he put into winning her over. “I had to date her for about four months before I could even kiss her,” he recalled. “I had to call her, write her love letters—it wasn’t easy.”
Just three years after their graduation, in 1992, Snoop’s life changed forever when rapper Dr. Dre discovered him, propelling him into the music industry spotlight.
Nearly a decade after meeting, Snoop and Shante Broadus tied the knot on June 14, 1997, at The Ritz Carlton Hotel in Marina Del Rey, California. By the time they wed, the couple had already welcomed their first son, Cordé Broadus, now 30.
Just months before the ceremony, their second son, Cordell Broadus, now 27, was born. Their family grew again in June 1999 with the birth of their daughter, Cori Broadus, now 25. Snoop also shares a son, Julian Corrie Broadus, 26, with Laurie Helmond.
The couple renewed their vows on January 12, 2006, in a surprise ceremony Snoop planned at singer Charlie Wilson’s ranch with 200 guests in attendance. This renewal followed a difficult period in 2004 when Snoop filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
They ultimately reconciled, with Snoop later explaining to E! News that the pressures of fame had clouded his focus. “This music industry is tough—it can blur your vision,” he admitted. “But God is good, and I realized I need my wife and kids in my life, so I threw the papers away.”
The couple is now proud grandparents to seven grandchildren, whom Snoop calls his “everything.” Speaking with People in June, he said, “My grandkids are my everything because they each hold a piece of my heart and are all so unique.” He added, “My grandpa was my best friend, and being that for my grandkids shows I’ve done well and outlived the odds.”
When it comes to his relationship with Shante, Snoop is quick to praise her unwavering support. “She understands me,” the 52-year-old shared with People. “She’s a great mother, a tremendous grandmother, an excellent wife, and a great friend. . . The good to my bad is her.”
