The Lakers, used the Emirates NBA Cup break to recharge regain some energy. Coach JJ Redick took the opportunity to address one of the most talked-about players at the start of the Lakersโ season.
The Lakers are facing a challenging period, as the team’s performance has dropped significantly over the last 10 games, winning only 4 of them. This slump has pushed LeBron James and his teammates down to 10th place in the Western Conference standings, dangerously close to falling out of the play-in zone.
The break provided by the Emirates NBA Cup Final Fourโa tournament the Lakers won last year but were eliminated from during the group stage this seasonโhas offered a chance to recover some energy and address the numerous issues the coaching staff is dealing with. During one of the team’s training sessions, JJ Redick also spoke again about one of the most talked-about players at the start of the season Bronny James:
JJ, Bronny, and the Fear of Failure
“He needs to reach a point where he accepts that failure is okay and stops being afraid of making mistakes.” Thatโs JJ Redick’s view on what Bronny James needs to unlock his potentialโa future the Lakers hope isnโt far off.
Redick acknowledged the unique challenges Bronny faces, saying, “I know heโs been under the spotlight since he was eight years old, with cameras constantly on him.” He added, “But heโs an exceptional young man, incredibly easy to coach because he does everything asked of him.”
According to Redick, the key to Bronnyโs breakthrough lies in his mindset. “Itโs not just about physical or technical development; the mental aspect is equally important and needs attention,” the coach explained.
As for what could happen once Bronny overcomes his fear of failure, currently holding him back as he competes in the G League, Redick is confident: “Once he gets past that fear, his career will take off.” Finished Redick, who is expecting Bronny to become a star in the future.
