World’s Oldest Supermodel Daphne Selfe Shares Her Secrets to a Long and Glamorous Life at 96

At 96 years old, Daphne Selfe continues to inspire the fashion world and beyond — not just for her stunning career as a model, but for the vibrant, down-to-earth lifestyle that has kept her thriving for nearly a century.
Officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest working supermodel, Daphne has graced runways, posed for elite fashion houses, and appeared on the covers of major magazines.
But what’s her secret? According to Daphne, it’s all about balance: good habits, good company, and a glass of champagne now and then.
“I like a glass of champagne,” she told The Telegraph in an interview published on November 29. “Only occasionally, if it’s somebody’s birthday. Or my birthday.”
Despite her long modeling career, Daphne insists she’s never been one to diet obsessively. Growing up during wartime meant food rationing was the norm, which naturally helped her develop mindful eating habits. She’s never had to worry about her weight, she says, and luckily, she’s always enjoyed eating fresh, healthy food.
“One should always eat plenty of vegetables. I like broccoli, but I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite,” she shared. “At home, we used to grow all our own.”
When it comes to skincare, Daphne keeps it simple. She swears by Nivea products and the benefits of natural vitamin D from spending time outdoors — something she’s always loved. In fact, her love for the outdoors extended to her rather unusual childhood pets.
“We had a pet fox at one point, called Vicky. And a rook called Johnny,” she recalled. “And two pet squirrels named Ping and Pong. They would run all over the house, jump on your head and do all sorts of funny things.”
Daphne is also a strong believer in the power of socializing — whether it’s meeting friends for coffee or throwing a lively party.
“I’m a great one for socialising and getting my friends together, even if it’s only for a coffee. And I do like to have a party,” she said.
Though now living in a care home funded by the Royal Variety Charity, Daphne hasn’t slowed down socially — or professionally. On November 30, she attended the Royal Variety Performance in London, where she met Prince William and Kate Middleton. When asked by the Prince when she retired, Daphne cheekily replied that she hadn’t.
Prince William reportedly responded, “That’s amazing.”
Beyond the fashion world, Daphne has made appearances in James Bond films, raised three children (now in their 50s and 60s), and is a proud grandmother to four grandchildren in their 20s.
Whether walking the runway or hosting a gathering of friends, Daphne Selfe proves that age is no limit to living with style, grace, and a touch of sparkle.
